Ruben Baca (26), a Texan in the Colorado Rockies, creates art for the outliers. A musician, poet and photographer his subject and themes deal with hard to subject that are often hard to digest.
Writer, composer editor.
Ruben Baca (26) is, among many things, a folk songwriter/poet residing in Durango, Colorado. Born in the Route 66 Texas town of Amarillo, Texas to Mexican immigrant parents, Ruben transcends a desolate desert and compact Luminescent sound through a variety of genres. As a bilingual poet his lyrics are tethered to the instruments with the intention to evoke in the listener experiences of redemption through sobriety, seeking purpose and struggles with mental illness.
As he entered adulthood, Ruben moved to New Mexico where he enrolled under the direct mentorship of Dr. Wong as a student of music. During this time Wong would instruct Ruben in a variety of ensembles including the NMJC Rock Band, NMJC Community Band, NMJC Choir as a proficient singer, guitarist, bassist, cellist, harmonica player, and pianist. As well as being a folk artist and the spearhead of the Ruben Baca Band, Baca also plays a 5 string bass in the death-metal outfit from Dulce, New Mexico, Decapitation of a New Day as well as Durango punk band, Dead Saturday. Ruben has sat in to perform with country bands, church bands, and rock bands.
Active since 2014, Ruben Baca has provided music fit for all around the Southwest in notable venues such as the Whiskey A-Go-Go (Los Angeles), Lea County Event Center (Hobbs, NM), the 806 (Amarillo, TX), Sante Fe Town Plaza and Jake’s Backroom (Lubbock, TX) with a variety of bands.
As well as being a full-time musician and writer Ruben also owns Necro Productions (est. 2017), a freelance production company that provides services such as event hosting, concert production, videography/photography, graphic design, and tour planning.
In 2019 Ruben launched Necro Magazine, a quarterly
